Festival "Craft"

In the stylized village of the Viking Age, on September 11, the Festival "CRAFT" was held. Festival "CRAFT" is a new opportunity to get acquainted with the ancient technologies of manual production of household items, household items, jewelry, weapons. The organization of the thematic day was held within the framework of the project "Livehistory - reconstruction a common history of a thousand years ago" of the Cross-Border Cooperation Program "Russia-Lithuania 2014-2020".

Due to pandemic restrictions, partners from the Republic of Lithuania could not come, but their virtual presence was made possible through the use of the Zoom Internet platform.

Craftsmen and members of the military-historical club "Vataga" and the club of historical reconstruction "Irlis" prepared and presented about a dozen master classes in pottery and weaving, the artisans demonstrated their skills in the blacksmith and weapons workshop, carpentry and chasing features can also be learned from experienced mentors. Workshops for the manufacture of wax candles of medieval costumes and jewelry were opened.

The novelty of the Festival CRAFT was the production of colored glass beads, which were used by medieval fashionistas.

The display of medieval costumes was no less popular than the jewelry itself. Men's and women's outfits are a reconstruction of the outfits of the Viking Age of the 9th-12th centuries. Ten costumes were sewn according to the results of archaeological research, which took place on the territory of the Swedish cities of Birka and Gotland, as well as our Novgorod.

This year, a new long-awaited object has appeared in the stylized park - a wooden gate tower, which among its similar structures is the highest not only in Russia, but also in Europe. The gate tower is 10 meters high and 14 meters wide.

In the settlement, within the framework of an international project, the construction of the next, third in a row, forge with summer, winter and residential buildings will soon begin. In addition to casting and forging metal, the new forge will also have glass-blowing production. All buildings are reconstructions of objects from the 9th-11th centuries.

In addition to these buildings, creative locations are located on the territory of Kaup, where craftsmen conduct master classes and teach medieval crafts to everyone.

The project "Livehistory - recomstruction of the common history of a thousand years ago" is being implemented within the framework of the Cross-Border Cooperation Program "Russia-Lithuania 2014-2020".

The total budget of the project is 335,123.34 euros.

European Union co-financing – EUR 165,886.05

Co-financing of the Russian Federation – EUR 135,724.95

The partners' own contribution is 10% of the total project budget.
