Festival Craft in the Viking village Kaup

      A Medieval Festival "CRAFT" was held in a stylized Viking village. The Day of Festival "CRAFT" is a new opportunity to get acquainted with ancient technologies of manual production of household items, household items, jewelry, and weapons. The organization of the thematic day was held within the framework of the project "Livehistory - creating a common history of a thousand years ago" of the Cross-border cooperation program "Russia - Lithuania 2014-2020".
       Due to the restrictions associated with the pandemic, partners from the Republic of Lithuania could not come, but their virtual presence became possible thanks to the use of the Zoom Internet platform.
      Craftsmen and members of the Vataga military history club and the Irlis historical reconstruction club prepared and presented about a dozen master classes in pottery and weaving; experienced mentors. Workshops for making wax candles of medieval costumes and jewelry were opened.
     A novelty of the Medieval Festival “CRAFT” was the production of colored glass beads, which were used by medieval women of fashion.
    The display of medieval costumes was as popular as the jewelry itself. The men's and women's outfits are reconstructions of the Viking era outfits of the 9th-12th centuries. Ten costumes were sewn based on the results of archaeological research that took place in the Swedish cities of Birka and Gotland, as well as in our Novgorod.
       This year, a new long-awaited object has appeared in the stylized park - a wooden gate tower, which is the tallest among similar structures not only in Russia, but also in Europe. The height of the gate tower is 10 meters, the width is 14.
      In the settlement, within the framework of an international project, the construction of the next, third in a row, a smithy with summer, winter and residential buildings will begin soon. In addition to casting and forging metal, the new forge will also have glass-blowing production. All buildings are reconstruction of objects of the 9th-11th centuries.
In addition to these buildings, creative locations are located on the territory of Kaup, where craftsmen conduct master classes and teach medieval crafts to everyone.

Crafts Festival at the Curonian village

   Within the framework of the "Livehistory" project prepared under the Russia-Lithuania Cross-Border Cooperation Program 2014-2020, on 21.08.2021, in the village of Darguziai, Klaipeda region, in the Manor of Ancient Curonians, a handicraft festival was held. The event was planned for the participation of all partners, namely representatives of the Administration of the Zelenogradsk town district, the Curonian History Club and the Kaliningrad regional public organization Center for Historical Reconstruction Kaup, but due to the epidemiological situation and restrictions, the partners from the Russian side did not take part in the event. live “, but through electronic means of communication.

   Craftsmen and club members took part in the handicraft festival at the Manor of the Ancient Curonians, who, in Curonian costumes made at the expense of the project, showed the exposition to everyone.

   To avoid a one-time arrival of a large number of participants due to epidemiological requirements, the opening holiday lasted 10 hours, from 12 to 22-00. During this time, over 500 people have visited the Manor of the Ancient Curonians.

  A house of a Curonian fisherman, a house of a Curonian farmer and a house of a Curonian Viking were erected in the manor. A mobile exposition of five mannequins representing everyday life has been created. Also, seven costumes were sewn - reconstructions of the outfits of the inhabitants of the Curonians settlement.

The Living History project is being implemented within the framework of the Russia-Lithuania 2014-2020 Cross-Border Cooperation Program.
